About
The Artist
Avo
Dermikaelian is of Armenian descent, born in Lebanon. While going
to school in Lebanon, he would also work with his dad in their auto
body shop during the summer break. But his passion has always been
art. Instead of working on cars, he would sit and draw his own comic
book characters. After a year he would leave the body shop and work
on painted panels and decorating walls.
At the age of 18 he decided he wanted to do more to advance his
art career. He left for Paris, France in 1976 and attended art school.
While going to school he would paint many pictures including portraits
and landscapes to take care of himself financially.
But he would have to cut things short in Paris because of the war
in Lebanon. His whole family would leave Lebanon and come to America,
and He too would follow. He arrived in America in the later months
of 1979 and got a job working for a sign company in South San Francisco,
to make ends meets. While working for the sign company he would
also do freelance work doing murals and painting projects.
After 3 years, in 1982 he decided to leave the sign company and
freelance doing murals and signs on his own. Since 1982 Avo has
been a freelance Artist doing hand painted signs and murals. But
for the last 15 years he has been doing only murals and faux paintings
and providing creative services to some of the interior designers
that he has worked with. If you would like to have a mural project
done for you, please feel free to email
the artist.
